Teesta is a senior journalist, educationist and activist. In 1993, she launched and has since then co-edited the monthly journal, ‘Communalism Combat’ along with colleague and husband, Javed Anand. She has exposed the communalisation within India’s law and order machinery since the early 1990s, including the partisan behaviour of sections of the Indian police during outbreaks of communal violence. She has extensively analysed and documented the build up to the conflict in Gujarat since 1991. Along with concerned citizens of Mumbai, she has set up Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) a civil rights group to give quality and sustained legal aid to victims of mass crimes.
